Dojo Kun

(what's this?)

  • Seek perfection of character — learn self-discipline, and "grow up"
  • Defend the paths of truth — be truthful to yourself and others
  • Foster the spirit of effort — try with all your might, and try again and again
  • Practice respect and politeness — what you say and how you behave matters
  • Refrain from violent behavior — stay calm and in control of yourself at all times

Who we are

Our dojo belongs to Swiss Karate Rengo (ikr-skr.com). We are a group of amateur yet dedicated karatekas who enjoy the practice, development and teaching of karate.

Chief instructor, training camps and exams

Sensei Nakajima Hiroshi, 9th dan, Hanshi (Geneva) oversees our technical programme, teaches us directly several times a year, and conducts exams on all levels.

Instructors in Zürich

  • Andras Horvath, 3rd dan IKR, 2nd dan direct
  • Luana Thuer, 2nd dan IKR, 1st dan direct
  • Zoltan Szamonek, 2nd dan IKR, 1st dan direct
  • Peter Urban, 1st dan IKR, 1st dan direct

We hold not only school-level diplomas, but also Dan directly attributed from Sensei Funakoshi (founder of modern karate) → Sensei Sasaki (founder of the Chidokai style) → Sensei Nakajima → us. This personal connection is a mark of quality and maintains the technical and spiritual succession of karate.

Background

Source

The Shotokan style established by Funakoshi Sensei on the basis of the teachings of Itosu Sensei and Azato Sensei. It was founded in Japan on 8 November 1954 by Takeshi Sasaki Sensei, who learned Karatedo from Funakoshi Sensei and Obata Sensei. Sasaki Sensei passed away in 1992, but his rich legacy lives on through the Japan Karatedo.
